What is account verification?

Paddle acts as the Merchant of Record, which means we resell your software. When we do this, we enter into a business relationship with you. As Paddle is based in the UK, we have to conduct KYC (Know Your Customer) checks on the individuals and companies we do business with in line with HMRC (HM Revenue & Customs) guidelines. We call this your Account Verification.

How will I know I need a KYC check?

Our dedicated Verification team will notify you via email if a KYC check is required. You can contact them via email at at any time if you have questions or concerns about your account verification.

Who performs these checks?

We have partnered with Onfido, an industry-leading ID verification solution which is used by companies such as Google and Uber.

What does this KYC check actually entail?

Our Verification team will contact you by email to advise that you are required to complete a KYC check. Shortly after, you’ll receive an email from our partner Onfido. This email will contain a link that will take you to the required form.

This form will ask you to share some personal information (such as full name, date of birth and nationality) and provide a copy of your ID document. If you are a registered business, we require the information of a Business Owner that owns more than 25% of the shares in the company. If you are an individual, you can just fill in the form with your own details. The entire process only takes a few minutes.

If you are a business, we may ask for certain documentation such as proof of business registration. If we require these documents, we’ll let you know via email directly, and you won’t need to enter them into any third party system.

Is my data safe with Onfido?

Yes, Onfido protects user data in line with the highest standards of information security. You can read more about it here.

Why is this check not integrated with the Paddle dashboard directly?

We understand that the best way to complete this check would be by entering the information in your Paddle account directly. This feature request is already with our product team and is on the roadmap. We hope to have this process improved as soon as possible.
